2014-15 Boys Basketball Season Recap

The Holland Christian boys basketball team finished its season with a 18-7 overall record. The Maroons' 7-3 conference record was enough to clinch a share of the OK Green title for the second consecutive season. They finished the season on a 10-game win streak before they were eliminated in the regional final against Spring Lake.

The team's success came from a very strong lineup that dominated on both sides of the ball. Tyler Hyma, Alex Bosch, and Jared Stygstra led the backcourt by shooting a combined 37% from beyond the arc. The Maroons also targeted Sam VanderSluis, who averaged 15 points per game in the center position. Matt Maas' ability to both drive the basket, dunk, and hit 42% of his three-point attempts made it extremely difficult for defenders to stop him.

The five starters shot a combined 74% from the free-throw line. This ability to hit clutch free-throws pushed the Maroons above their opponents in a couple close games, notably the 53-52 victory over Detroit Country Day and the 55-53 victory over Byron Center.

Holland Christian also had a very talented bunch of players that were able to come off the bench and drill a shot when they needed to.

The Maroons boasted four players who stood at least six-foot-six. In addition to points, these players combined for countless rebounds, steals, and powerful blocks throughout the season.

Holland Christian will graduate six very talented seniors, but the future of Coach Mejeur's basketball program is nothing but bright.
