Holland Christian
welcomed the NorthPointe Christian Mustangs to the Civic Center on
Tuesday for senior night. Sam VanderSluis, Matt Maas, Kyle Wassink,
Jared Stygstra, Ben Slager, and Zach Brink were honored in the
pregame ceremony.
NorthPointe jumped
out to a 12-2 lead early, but Holland Christian finished the quarter
on a 13-0 run to take a 15-12 advantage into the second quarter. The
Maroons began the second quarter with another 13-0 run to extend
their lead to 32-15 at halftime. The seniors accounted for 23 of the
team's first half points.
Holland Christian's
quick pace and efficient shooting made the score 47-29 after three
quarters. The Mustangs managed to narrow the deficit to three with 23
seconds left in the game, but four late free-throws from Tyler Hyma
sealed the 61-54 victory.
Sam VanderSluis led
the team with 13 points. Matt Maas had 12 points. Kyle Wassink had
nine points including a monstrous two-handed slam. Mike Mokma put up
a season-high nine points.
Holland Christian
will close out the regular season on Thursday at Covenant Christian.
On Monday, March 9, the Maroons will begin the district tournament
against Zeeland West at Allendale High School.
