2015 Girls Soccer April 17 vs. West Ottawa

Holland Christian hosted West Ottawa on Friday night. The majority of the Maroons' first half possessions led to corner kicks and dangerous chances. Taylor Genzink assisted Alexi Zastrow for the game's first goal with ten minutes to go in the first half. Zastrow blasted the ball past the keeper from 20 yards out.

The second half was the exact opposite. West Ottawa maintained control for the majority of the half and had many chances. The Panthers evened the game at 1-1 only 44 seconds into the second half, but the Maroons were on their heels for the entire half.

“We are still looking to play a complete game. Our first half was great but in the second half we looked tired and lost our composure. This is a game we'll learn from...I'm looking forward to another conference game on Monday [at Holland]”

2015 Baseball April 16 @ Hamilton

Holland Christian continued the series with Hamilton on Thursday. Due to the unusual postponement of Tuesday's second game, the teams resumed play in the tenth inning. That game finished 7-3 in favor of the Hawkeyes.

The second game got off to a great start for the Maroons. Josh Sterenberg, Coby Curtiss, and Mike Mokma began the game with three consecutive singles. Those baserunners all turned into runs as Holland Christian jumped out to an early 3-0 lead. Hamilton scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning and three runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Mike Mokma hit a double off the left-center wall—about 325 feet from home plate—to start the top of the seventh but was unable to score. The game ended 5-3 in favor of Hamilton. The Maroons, however, outhit the Hawkeyes 12-10.

Josh Sterenberg played well both offensively and defensively. He pitched the whole game, struck out six, and never walked anyone. On the other side of the ball, Sterenberg went 3-for-4 and scored a run.

The best chance either team had to score was when Brandon Riemersma stood on third base in the second inning. Mokma and Wolfram both had 1-2-3 innings in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings.

David Williams got on base in the bottom of the seventh by singling up the middle. Josh York eventually drove in Williams with a line drive single to right field to give the Maroons its second walkoff victory of the season—both winning runs were scored by Williams and York was at the plate both times.
