The Maroons kicked off their
season on Thursday, as they faced off against the Zeeland East Chix.
The Maroons started the game off with strong defense. Holland
Christian's Alex Bosch had a key interception, which prevented a Chix
touchdown in the first quarter. The scoring began early in the second
quarter, when the Chix kicked one through the uprights, making the
score 3-0. The Chix added three more touchdowns, making the score
24-0 at Halftime.
The Maroons started the 2nd
half with strong offense, however they were not able to capitalize on
the chance. The Chix managed two more touchdowns early on in the
fourth quarter, making the score 37-0 Chix. The Maroons began their
offensive drive with five minutes remaining in the game, when Isaac
Boes returned a kickoff 70 yards, before he was finally taken down.
That drive ended in a touchdown thrown by Jared Stygstra and caught
by Kyle Steigenga. The Chix added one more touchdown in the final
minutes to make the final score 44-7. Holland Christian will try to
get their first win of the season as they open their season at home
