Holland
Christian played against Spring Lake on Wednesday night for the
Regional championship. The Maroons battled their way to a 17-12 lead
after the first quarter. Spring Lake fought back to take a 27-24 lead
into halftime. Sam VanderSluis had eight points and Mike Mokma had
six rebounds in the first half.
The
Maroons hit three three-pointers in the third quarter but the deficit
remained the same, 40-37 in favor of Spring Lake. Eight of Holland
Christian's nine shots from the field in the fourth quarter were from
beyond the arc. All three successful shots were to tie the game.
Spring Lake made the game-winning basket with a minute remaining in
regulation. The Lakers ended up winning by a score of 49-46.
Tyler
Hyma led the team in points with 14, including three clutch
three-pointers in the second half to even the score.
Holland
Christian finishes the season with an 18-7 record, a conference
co-championship, and a district championship.
Six
very talented seniors played their last game for the Maroons: Sam
VanderSluis, Matt Maas, Kyle Wassink, Jared Stygstra, Ben Slager, and
Zach Brink.
