The Maroons battled
the Allendale Falcons on Wednesday for a trip to the district
championship game. Holland Christian jumped out to an early 11-4 lead
after the first quarter. They maintained that seven point lead at
halftime, 22-15.
Just like last game
against Zeeland West, the third quarter blew the Maroons' lead wide
open. They closed the quarter on a 12-1 run to take a demanding 42-22
advantage into the final quarter of play. Matt Maas threw down a
powerful dunk in the closing moments of the fourth quarter to seal a
65-48 victory.
Maas led Holland
Christian with 15 points. Sam VanderSluis and Tyler Hyma had 11 and
10, respectively. Alex Bosch and Jared Stygstra both played well on
both sides of the ball: They each had a three-pointer and a
two-pointer offensively, and both played solid defense on their
respective guards.
Holland Christian
will tip off against Unity Christian at 7:00 on Friday night (at
Allendale) for the district championship.
The Maroons defeated the Crusaders in both games earlier this season.
