Holland Christian traveled to Grand
Rapids on Friday to take on the undefeated South Christian Sailors.
South Christian jumped out to a 12-2 lead in the first quarter,
however Holland Christian rallied to cut the deficit to 13-10 at the
end of the first quarter. Kyle Steigenga made 5/7 second quarter free
throws, sending the game into Halftime with a score of 26-23 in favor
of South Christian.
The Holland Christian defense came out
strong in the second half. The Maroons defense prevented the Sailors
from scoring for the first five minutes of the quarter. Despite this,
South Christian finished the third quarter with a 37-36 lead. In the
fourth quarter, Holland Christian scored a collective 12 points.
However, South Christian tallied 25 points, which put the score out
of reach for the Maroons. The game ended in a final score of 62-48.
Kyle Steigenga led the team with 24
points. Sam VanderSluis had 11, and Jared Dykstra followed with 7
points. After tonight's game, Holland Christian's record becomes 3-2.
Holland Christian will return to the Civic Center on Tuesday, January
14, as they will host the Zeeland West Dux.
