The Maroons returned home on Tuesday
as they faced the Eagles of Grand Rapids Christian. For the first few
minutes, both teams had excellent scoring opportunities. However
Grand Rapids Christian was the first to capitalize in the match. The
Eagles scored their goal on a cross to the middle, where the Grand
Rapids striker was there to finish it. The first half came to a close
with the Eagles on top 1-0.
The 2nd half started in
Grand Rapids Christian's favor, as they got a goal only three minutes
into the half, as they got a nice ricochet in front of the Holland
Christian goal. Later in the half, Holland Christian had a quality
scoring chance. Alex Keizer sent the ball from half to Marcus
Hoekstra in front of the net, where he got a head on it, however the
Eagles' goalie was there for the save. With 10 minutes left in the
game, Holland Christian goalie Cody VanderLaan made an amazing diving
stop that saved a shot that was shot from only 10 yards away. The
Eagles added a goal with three minutes left off of a header by the
Grand Rapids forward to make the final score 3-0. Coach Spoelhof said
following the match, “There is opportunity for growth in
finishing”, “And taking advantage of the opportunities that we
are given...” added Coach DeBoer. The Maroons will be back in
action on Thursday as they host Thornapple-Kellogg High School at
7:15.
