The Varsity golf participated in the
Hamilton Invite on Thursday. Despite the intense heat, all of the
girls scored well. Bre Luurtsema played well today, as she shot a 96, including
five pars in her performance. Kate Ellens also played well, as she
shot a 101 on the day. Ellens used a pitching wedge, and placed the
ball 8 feet from the hole. Ellens ended up sinking the putt, giving
her a birdie on that hole. Sarah Vroon shot a 97 on the day with 4
pars, and she 'drove the ball well off the tee' says Coach Velthouse.
Candace Hoitenga shot a 97 and had 3 pars. Hoitenga was the most
consistent golfer of the day, with a 48 in the front, and a 49 in the
back. Holland Christian ended up in 5th place overall; St.
Joseph ended up with the victory. Coach Velthouse said following the
match, “I'm proud of the girls for doing their best in the heat
today...Hope to come back the the holiday weekend strong and
refreshed!”. Holland Christian's next match will be on Tuesday,
September 3. It will be played at home (Winding Creek Golf Course),
and it will start at 3:30.
