Holland Christian welcomed Zeeland
East to the turf on Wednesday night. The Maroons maintained
possession in the attacking zone for the majority of the first half.
Neither team capitalized in the first half, but the first half gave
the Maroons a lot of momentum that led to an early second half
explosion. Just two minutes into the second half, a corner kick from
Andrew Keizer found the foot of Brandt VanHeest, who put the ball in
the back of the net. VanHeest is a middle defender, but he is pulled
up for certain set pieces. Less than a minute later, Jake Kammeraad
took a corner kick that found its way to VanHeest's shoulder for his
second goal in 60 seconds. Three minutes after that outburst of
goals, Micah Bieri put another one on the scoreboard by striking one
past the goalie from 15 yards out. With just under 20 minutes to play
in the game, Reed Valk managed to kick in the fourth goal of the
game. Zeeland East pushed in the final minutes for a goal, and they
got one. The game ended in a 4-1 Maroons victory. After the game,
Coach DeBoer complimented his players for their ability to “reward
themselves with the work that they do each game”. The Maroons
improve to 4-0-1 on the season. Holland Christian's next game will be
played at Grand Rapids Christian at 4:30 on Tuesday, September 2.
