Holland Christian played against Grand
Haven on a very windy Monday afternoon. Nick Hill opened the bottom
of the first by getting walked. Hill would eventually come home after
Nate DeZwaan drove him in on a fielder's choice. In the third inning,
Max Wierda scored off of a wild pitch. Nate DeZwaan scored Brandon
Roon from third base by reaching on a bunt. On the very next play,
Landon Brower grounded into a double play, but Nick Hill was able to
come in from third base, making the score 4-2 after three innings.
After a scoreless fourth inning, Grand Haven tied the game up at 4-4
in the top of the fifth. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Brandon
Roon, a courtesy runner for Nate DeZwaan, scored off a wild pitch,
making the score 5-4 in favor of the Maroons. That score would prove
to be the final. Josh Sterenberg pitched four solid innings, followed
by three shutout innings by Nate DeZwaan, who earned the Win. Each
pitcher gave up only one hit. Offensively, Nate DeZwaan batted in two
runs for the Maroons. Holland Christian will host a doubleheader
against the Holland Dutch on Tuesday, April 29.
