After splitting a double header just a
day prior, the Maroons faced the Zeeland West Dux again on Thursday.
The scoring began in the second inning when Josh Sterenberg reached
on an error with the bases loaded, scoring two runs. On the very next
play, Josiah Coleman cleared the bases with a 2 RBI double. Nick Hill
doubled in another run, making the score 5-0 with 0 outs in the
second inning. Nate DeZwaan continued the scoring with an RBI single,
followed by a sacrifice fly by Landon Brower. Josh York added another
RBI single. The Maroons added two more runs when Josh Sterenberg
reached on an error, plating Roon and Mokma. The second inning
massacre of the Dux came to a close when Dan Lynch was walked with
the bases loaded. After two innings, the Maroons were beating the Dux
11-0. Landon Brower hit a solo home run to left field in the fifth
inning, making the score 12-1, hence ending the game by mercy rule.
Josh York pitched four innings, gave
up 1 hit, and had 7 strikeouts. Mike Mokma and Josh York each went 2
for 4 on the day. Josiah Coleman and Landon Brower each finished with
two RBIs.
Holland Christian will return home on
Saturday, April 19, as they host Fruitport in a doubleheader. The
first game will begin at 10 AM and the second game will follow.
