Holland Christian continued the series
with Hamilton on Thursday. Due to the unusual postponement of
Tuesday's second game, the teams resumed play in the tenth inning.
That game finished 7-3 in favor of the Hawkeyes.
The second game got off to a great
start for the Maroons. Josh Sterenberg, Coby Curtiss, and Mike Mokma
began the game with three consecutive singles. Those baserunners all
turned into runs as Holland Christian jumped out to an early 3-0
lead. Hamilton scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning and
three runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Mike Mokma hit a double off the
left-center wall—about 325 feet from home plate—to start the top
of the seventh but was unable to score. The game ended 5-3 in favor
of Hamilton. The Maroons, however, outhit the Hawkeyes 12-10.
Josh Sterenberg played well both
offensively and defensively. He pitched the whole game, struck out
six, and never walked anyone. On the other side of the ball,
Sterenberg went 3-for-4 and scored a run.
The Maroons will participate in a four
team tournament on Saturday in Wyoming.
