Holland Christian returned to the Civic Center on Wednesday
night, as they hosted Allendale in the second round of the District
tournament. Holland Christian scored seven points in the first
quarter. The powerful Maroon defense held Allendale to only a free
throw in the first quarter, and took a 7-1 lead into the second.
Allendale didn't make a field goal for the first ten minutes of the
game. Kyle Steigenga scored nine points in the second quarter,
sending the Maroons into halftime with a 21-11 lead.
The Maroons continued to dominate in the third quarter. Thanks to
great performances by Sam VanderSluis and Kyle Steigenga, the Maroons
doubled their first half score, and took a commanding 42-23 lead into
the final quarter.
The Maroons added eight points in the fourth quarter to seal the
50-34 victory. Kyle Steigenga led the Maroons with 18 points. Sam
VanderSluis scored ten, and Jared Dykstra finished with eight. This
victory pushes the Maroons to the District championship game.
After the Holland Christian game, Zeeland West and Unity battled
for a trip to the District championship against the Maroons. Zeeland
West ended up winning that game by a score of 55-53. Holland
Christian will face Zeeland West for the District Championship on
Friday at 7PM. In the regular season, the Maroons and the Dux split
the series 1-1, and were Co-Champions of the OK Green.
