Holland Christian welcomed the Holland
Dutch to its field on Thursday after sweeping Tuesday's doubleheader
at Holland. Josh Sterenberg drove in Brandon Riemersma on a fielder's
choice to tie the game at 1-1 after one. The teams had a combined
no-hitter through five innings as the first 40 batters failed to
reach base on a hit. The game was still tied 1-1 after the regulation
seven innings.
In the top of the eighth inning, the
Dutch had two men in scoring position with one out. Josh York struck
out the next batter and forced the following batter to popout.
In the bottom of the eighth inning,
Brandon Riemersma got the first hit of the day for Holland Christian
on a short ground ball to the pitcher. Riemersma stole second and
advanced to third on a Coby Curtiss single. Mike Mokma drove in
Riemersma with a line drive single to left, giving the Maroons their
third walkoff victory of the season.
Josh York pitched all eight innings,
threw 122 pitches, struck out 12 batters, and only allowed two hits.
Holland Christian will take a 7-2
record into Monday's game at Comstock Park.
