Holland
Christian hosted Unity Christian on Friday night. Being the last home
game of the season, all eleven seniors were honored before the game:
Jake Kalkman, Jared Stygstra, Ben Conklin, Carter VanderKolk, Josiah
Yonker, Tyler VanderWall, Nico Maldonado, Gerry Tamez, Alex Hoffman,
Kody Rigterink, and Stefan Burke.
Unity
scored a touchdown on their first play from the line of scrimmage.
The first quarter ended with the Crusaders on top 21-0. Their lead
maxed out at 27-0 after another touchdown in the second quarter.
Caleb Brink ran the ball for a 15 yard touchdown with four minutes
remaining in the half. Backup kicker Alex Bosch added the extra point
to make the score 27-7 in favor of Unity.
Jared
Stygstra opened the second half scoring by keeping the ball for a
seven yard touchdown. After three quarters of play, the Crusaders led
the Maroons 34-13. Lukas Bruxvoort's 14 yard touchdown catch in the
fourth quarter put Holland Christian within two scores of Unity.
After another Crusader touchdown, the Maroons pulled a trick play to
score a touchdown on a 4th-and-6 from the 18 yard line. Jared
Stygstra handed the ball off to running back Caleb Brink, who then
threw the ball to a wide open Alex Bosch in the corner of the end
zone. After that touchdown, Unity had the 41-25 lead. The Crusaders
scored another touchdown shortly thereafter. Jared Stygstra wrapped
up the scoring by running in a two yard touchdown, and then running
in the two point conversion. In the end, Unity Christian defeated
Holland Christian 48-33.
Holland
Christian (3-5) will face the Dux of Zeeland West next week Friday in
the last game of the season.
