2013-14 Boys Basketball February 8 vs Holland

After winning their game against Hamilton less than 24 hours prior, the Maroons returned to the Civic Center to take on the Holland Dutch. The Maroons started the game up with 10 first quarter points. However, Holland's strong offense gave the Dutch an 18-10 lead after the first quarter. Holland Christian battled to score 9 points in the second quarter, but were unfortunately outscored again by the Holland Dutch. The score was 33-19 in favor of the Dutch at halftime. As the second half progressed, the game began to intensify. Sam VanderSluis scored 8 points in the third quarter, cutting the Dutch lead to 47-40 going into the fourth quarter. The Maroons outscored the Dutch 13-6 in the first seven minutes of the fourth quarter. Holland Christian got fired up in the last minute with a layup from Justin Dykgraaf, tying the game at 53-53. The Dutch ran the last possession of the game down to the final second, where they shot a last second three-pointer to give Holland the 56-53 victory over the Maroons. Sam VanderSluis led the Maroons with 18 points. Kyle Steigenga scored 13, and Justin Dykgraaf scored 7. With tonight's loss, the Maroons record drops to 10-4. Holland Christian will return to the Civic Center on Tuesday, February 11, as they host Covenant Christian High School. Holland Christian will have a rematch against the Holland Dutch on Friday, February 14, at Holland High School.
