The Maroons played their last game of
the regular season on Wednesday, as they traveled to the home of the
#1 ranked Unity Christian Crusaders. Both teams had decent
opportunities throughout the game. The first half was spent primarily
with the Maroons playing defense. Holland Christian goalie Luke
Schepers did not allow any goals throughout the first half of play.
Offensively, the Maroons were not able to capitalize on any of their
scoring chances. The second half began with a Unity Christian goal
two minutes into the half, making the score 1-0 Unity. Despite the
great effort, Holland Christian was not able to tie the game up, and
the game ended in a score of 1-0. “This team has done a tremendous
job of getting better everyday...they are continuing on their journey
to set a new standard for HC soccer!” said Coach DeBoer following
the game. With this loss, the Maroons finish their season with a
10-5-4 record heading into the postseason. “We're looking forward
to a tough district that has two of the top teams in the state in it
(Holland and Unity)” says Coach DeBoer. Holland Christian will
begin their postseason on Tuesday, October 15, as take on the Zeeland
East Chix. The game will be held at Zeeland East, and kickoff will be
at 6pm.
