It
was a very eventful weekend for the Maroons: 12 hours of traveling, 3
hours of game delay, and a game that lasted about 25 hours from
kickoff to the final whistle. On Friday night, the Maroons and the
Adrian Maples played eleven minutes of scoreless football before a
storm interrupted them. After nearly three hours of lightning, the
game was laid off until Saturday night. Holland Christian packed up
their things and headed home to Holland. Eleven hours after arriving
back at Holland Christian, they got on the bus and headed back to
Adrian.
The
first quarter eventually came to a close with a 0-0 tie. The Maples
began the second quarter with a touchdown. Holland Christian's next
drive was highlighted by a 30 yard pass from Jared Stygstra to Jake
Kalkman, and a 10 yard touchdown run by Jared Stygstra. At halftime,
Adrian had a 14-7 lead.
The
Maples extended their lead to 28-7 by scoring two touchdowns in the
third quarter.
Holland
Christian added seven points after Jared Stygstra found Alex Bosch on
a 4th and 9 goal line pass. Later on in the fourth quarter, the
Maples found themselves on top 42-14. In the final minutes of the
game, Lukas Bruxvoort caught a 40 yard pass from Stygstra to put them
at the 12 yard line. David Williams finished off the game's scoring
with a 12 yard touchdown run. In the end, the Maroons lost 42-20.
Holland Christian will return home on Friday, September 12, as they
host Grand Rapids Catholic Central.
